Spartacus: Blood and Sand on Starz

Spartacus: Blood and Sand premieres January 22 exclusively on Starz®, and promises to give viewers something they have never seen before. Now, as the captivating story of Spartacus is about to unfold, the true underbelly of Rome and the gladiators will be revealed.
Spartacus: Blood and Sand follows the story of a man who defied an empire. A Thracian soldier in the Roman Auxiliary, Spartacus (Andy Whitfield) was sentenced to die in the bloodthirsty gladiatorial arena, with his wife Sura being sold into slavery. But Spartacus survives, and with every passing day he comes closer to a destiny written in blood. Whitfield, an Australian actor of high critical acclaim, describes Spartacus as “a beast with a heart” and a fire that burns within. The supporting cast of Spartacus: Blood and Sand is equally as impressive. Joining Whitfield are Lucy Lawless as the scheming Lucretia, and John Hannah as Batiatus, Lucretia’s husband and the merciless owner of Spartacus. Lawless rose to fame as the noble Xena: Warrior Princess, but as Lucretia she plays a character as ruthless and two-faced as she is beautiful. Acclaimed Scottish actor Hannah, known for his roles in The Mummy and Four Weddings and a Funeral, describes Batiatus as “a businessman trying to make a living in a world in which slavery exists and there are no moral qualms about killing people for entertainment.” With intense graphic visuals, violent battles and provocative storylines, Spartacus: Blood and Sand is set to become the boldest new show on television. Don’t miss it!
